1st Birthday comin up!

This is the picture invitation that Jan (sis-in-law) did for the combined party for Lou and Nate. The party is next week – May 7. Pretty cute stuff! We’ll see who eats their cupcake first…

Sister Speed and New Teeth

Well, this baby is crawling! Lou just started really truckin’ along in the last week. I’ll be in one room with her and poof – she’s headed down the hall to a more exciting destination. She’s popped one of her front teeth today, and the other 3 ‘bubbles’ are just dying to join the party outside of the gums. It’s been a tough couple of nights with multiple wake-ups, crying and then some scary diapers in the days. Yikes!

From Boy to Man–The Marks of Manhood

One blog that I subscribe to and frequently read is Albert
Mohler’s blog
on Crosswalk.com.
His blogs are lengthy pieces but nearly always worth the read. And he blogs every
weekday.

His 2 recent blogs have attempted to answer the question of ‘When does a boy become
a man?’. He lists out 13 points over 2 days that are well worth the read. Below is
the introduction or teaser for the blogs.

When does a boy become a man? This is not just a hypothetical question,
for an incredibly large number of boys and young men are struggling to answer this
question, and many are without fathers who are faithful to guide them, or other male
role models who offer inspiration and instruction. Furthermore, our society is so
confused on these issues that boys are understandably puzzled.

The blog concludes with the following exhortation that I will endeavor (and encourage
all my friends with boys to endeavor) to apply to my relationship with my son.

Dads, you are absolutely crucial to the process of man-making. No one
else can fulfill your responsibility, and no one else can match your opportunity for
influence with your son. By word and by example, we are teaching our sons the meaning
of manhood. May God make us faithful as we seek to lead our boys to become true Christian
men.

And finally, if you are not reading Albert Mohler’s blog on a regular basis, you should
be.

The Flesh Of Beasts

Baby Weezy has tasted of the flesh of beasts (well, at this point only fowl) and is
hooked. Last week, I cut up little cubes of chicken and placed the first one into
her mouth. She rolled it around in there, seemingly unsure of what to do with it.
Then she started gumming it. In no time, she had scooped up all the pieces I cut for
her. She really likes the chicken and turkey pieces that we have given her. At the
same time (related?, I don’t know) she is getting more picky about the pureed food
that we give her. Broccoli and Asparagus used to be consumed with the same enthusiasm
as plums and pears. Lately, she has balked at the veggies after a few bites and signals
us with her own brand of signing ‘All Done’. If we wait a couple of minutes and try
again, she will sometimes eat more. Finally, if she hasn’t finished the bowl off,
we will pour some applesauce on top and co-mingle the foods.

I mean who wouldn’t want to have a bowl of broccoli and carrots mixed with plain
yogurt, tofu and ground flax seed?

Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever
is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there
is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things.

So hard to do.
