This week marks the last day of the Artios Academy that Max and Lucy attend. Artios uses the Orff method of music education. It was a privilege to be at their final presentation. Both Max and Lucy played arrangements on the Orff instruments (glockenspiels and xylophones). Lucy’s class also did a couple of songs on the ‘boom whackers’.

Most recent outing
Max pitched again on Wednesday’s game (5/18/2011) against the Mudcats. He pitched for a full 2 innings, as the closer, delivering 47 pitches. He struck out 5 batters and didn’t allow any runs.
The Bulls won the game 6-4. With only 3 games left in the season, we are tied for 1st place, I think.
P.S. The camera on my phone is a piece of junk. I hope to have some better pictures if he pitches on Saturday.
How Roly Says ‘Please’ with his Face
Oh, that is what a rain fly is for
It rained last night. We are using a borrowed tent, and I didn’t put up the rain fly. Big mistake. I already don’t like the sound of rain, and now I have another reason not to like it. Wet tent, wet sleeping bag, wet shoes, wet pillow. But I can smell bacon cooking for breakfast, so all is not too bad.
Little League 2011
Max is really enjoying playing baseball this season. He is in the Minor ‘A’ league, on the Durham Bulls (a minor league of MLB).
He prefers playing 1st base. The coach also puts him in left field because Max has the speed to chase fly balls. He has made some tremendous defensive plays and has been awarded 3 ‘game’ balls this season.
This past Saturday, Max tried something new. The coach asked him to start off the game in the position of pitcher. Max had never pitched in a game before, but has been throwing balls into a piece of plywood in the yard for a while.
In the first inning, Max got 2 strikeouts and had 1 run scored on 13 pitches. He did so well that the coach had him pitch for the second inning as well. In the second inning, he struck out 1 batter and held the opposing team scoreless in 21 pitches.
The coach’s original intent was (and continues to be) to give each boy who wants a chance to pitch for at least 1 inning. Max exceeded expectations, and so I think the coach might add Max to the pitching rotation. The coach really likes the idea of having a left-handed pitcher.
