60 Cars Vandalized in Local Neighborhood

Carpinteria — One teen is under arrest and investigators are looking for more suspects involved in a rash of vandalism.

The Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Department is investigating reports of more than 60 vehicles that had their tires slashed over the weekend in various locations, throughout Carpinteria.

The crimes occurred on Linden Avenue, 8th Street, Willow Place, Oak Avenue, Elm Avenue, Holly Avenue and Palm Avenue.

Deputies say evidence recovered at the scene led them to 18-year-old Gustavo Julian. Julian was arrested on Sunday and booked into the Santa Barbara County Jail on felony vandalism charges.

The investigation is ongoing and sheriff officials say there will be more arrests.

Anyone with information about these crimes are urged to call the Sheriff’s Department in Carpinteria at 805-684-4561.

At 7:15 a on Sunday, I was washing Lucy and preparing for church when Max came and told me that a sheriff’s deputy wanted to talk to me outside.  When I got downstairs, I got the bad news.  Both street side tires on my Honda Civic had been stabbed in the sidewall.  Ugh.

Although it was a rotten situation, it was resolved in about an easy manner as possible.  AAA dispatched a tow truck right away, and it arrived a few minutes early.  The Firestone Tires in Santa Barbara was able to get the new tires on in the amount of time they told me it would take.  It could have been a lot worse.  The van could have been hit, then I would have had to replace 4 day old tires.

According to my neighbors, the ‘evidence recovered at the scene’ that was referenced in the news article was actually a blood trail that led from one of the cars to the jerk’s house.  He had cut himself and dribbled everywhere.

If I didn’t know better, I might suspect that Lucy is doing it for the Tooth Fairy money. . .

On Tuesday, the Carpinteria Homeschoolers (Norby’s –2, Theule’s – 2, Allen’s –2, Kitt’s – 4) took a field trip to City Hall and the Sheriff’s Station.  They got to see the inside of the holding cell and have a mock City Council meeting.  Max was the mayor and Lucy’s proposed resolution was defeated soundly.

Near the end, one of the City employees had kindly given Lucy a shell like the one below.

Lucy was running down the hallway and tripped, smacking her mouth into the seashell she had in her hand.  Needless to say, there were blood and tears everywhere.  And when she was cleaned up, it was discovered that she had a new hole in her mouth and a big fat lip.

Our good friends, the Dokolas family, visited from Bakersfield recently.  There are 2 boys (10 and 7) who play very well with our kids and so it is a pleasure to spend long weekends with them.

On Sunday, we all headed to the beach.  It was a warm day, but overcast in the morning.  Max and Jordan (along with parental supervision by Marcus) braved the cold water of the spring time Pacific to conquer the waves on Boogie Boards.

Some sand burying was done.

Michelle and Toby and I monitored everything from a safe distance.

Lucy takes after her mother in many ways.  One way is that she loves to sing and lead singing in her Sunday School class.  Toby says that when she gets to her class, she runs to the front for worship and grabs a microphone and starts leading worship.

This past Sunday morning, before church, Lucy asked me if I would pull her loose tooth after church.  I said of course, but I suggested that I pull the tooth right away, before church.  Lucy was adamant that it be after church.  When I asked why, she rolled her eyes like I just didn’t understand and said, "Because I can’t hold the microphone and a bloody tissue in my mouth and sing at the same time."  Duh.

So right away when we got home, Lucy reminded me that I was supposed to pull her tooth out.  Here is a picture of my girl with her newest mouth-gap.

After she saw the work of art that Max created, Lucy wanted to try her hand behind the camera.
