Lucy’s 4th Birthday

I found some pictures of Lucy’s 4th birthday on the work camera.  I’ll post them now, since the ‘official’ posting could be months away.  Her birthday fell on a Saturday work day, so Toby brought the kids out to the front porch where I was filling in the trench to cover the gas line trench (yes, that gas line trench that was dug in October 2007) and Lucy opened presents on the front porch.

Her new hat (additional coloring books, sticker books, paints and brushes are hiding behind mom’s knee.

The ‘big girl’ scooter.  Like brother’s ‘big boy’ scooter.  And a helmet and elbow guards (not pictured), of course.

This was only one of 3 different 4 celebrations of Lucy’s birthday.  We had:

  1. Birthday Morning (pictured)
  2. Birthday Evening (with Aunt Kelly and Uncle Ray)
  3. Combo Birthday party with Nate and family (on Mother’s day)
  4. Complimentary ColdStone ice cream on Tuesday because Dad signed up Lucy into the Coldstone Creamery Birthday Club.  You can sign up too.

Toby will post pictures of the other celebrations, I’m sure.

A Weekend with Kevin

I missed posting about a work weekend in April where Kevin S. cranked out some major progress for us.  We got the garage door converted into a solid wall, pocket doors hung, interior doorways framed up and more!

Before the new wall

We used steel studs to cover the garage door.  My dad found the studs on the side of the road, 2 years ago.  They have been sitting in his garage for that whole time.  We had exactly the number necessary for this one wall!  Another example of God’s providence.

The garage door is neatly hidden.

Pocket door in guest bathroom.

Pocket door at the top of the stairs in the loft.

Max in the paper

Toby submitted the picture of Max with his artwork and a write up to the Coastal View News, our local paper.  They ran the picture and her writeup in this weeks paper.  Below is a picture of the article.

You can read the paper online. The article appeared on page 15. The next issue comes out on Thursday, 15 May, and I don’t know what happens to the current issue.

Fun Chatter

Before a dinner of Mahi-Mahi, Lucy asked skeptically, “what is this?”  Max reassured her, “this chicken tastes just like fish!”

Lucy has taken to giving me kisses on my arm, neck, leg, etc that are more like small hickeys (not on my mouth).  She says, “I’m sucking your milk!”  I don’t know which friend of ours was breastfeeding, but that’s what I think is happening.  To my knowledge, there’s no lactating going on here.

After Bub asked her what she learned in Sunday School last week, she replied, “The story was about Jesus and Goliaf!”

And with only a bit of assistance, Lucy is counting enthusiastically to 100.  Doesn’t hurt to have a big brother!

Max and the Santa Barbara Fair

This was the first year that Max entered some artwork into the SB Fair and Expo.  We submitted 1 Lego creation and 9 drawings.  You should have seen the entry form – very funny – ‘Pirate Ship – in blues and browns, Pirate Ship – in browns and blacks, Pirate Ship – in pencil and black pen, etc.’  It was great fun to see that he won NINE First Place ribbons and one Second Place ribbon.  It certainly helps that we don’t live in LA County and have to compete with masses of kids, but still – pretty impressive!
