Two for Tuesday

Well, Miss Baby Girl started to walk! We were at the Carp pool on Tuesday (6/28), and while brother swam around on the steps, Lou puttered 4 and 5 steps to me before falling on my legs. We tried to do more, but she was laughing so hard that she’d just lean way over when I tried to get her to balance. So funny!

Matt and I got to attend a premiere of ‘War of the Worlds’ at the Academy of Motion Pictures screening room in Beverly Hills. Matt’s cousin-in-law Kyle works for Kennedy-Marshall (the producers of the film), and so we were invited. This wasn’t the glitzy one with Tom C, etc, more of the industry people and crew croud. It was a really great movie – amazing effects and sound story line. It was a bit tedious sitting in lots of traffic to get there, but I think it was worth it.

A Unique Way To Clean Underwear

Last week, Toby purchased a new pack of Spiderman underwear for Max. For the remainder
of the week, he would change his underwear multiple times during the day, rotating
between the 3 new pairs. By the end of the week, all 3 pairs were officially dirty
and had been moved into the dirty clothes hamper. On Sunday morning before church,
after directing Max on what clothes to wear, I noticed he was wearing one of the new
pairs of underwear. I asked him where he had found that pair. He told me that he got
them from the dirty clothes hamper. When I pointed out to him that the hamper is where
DIRTY clothes go, he agreed that the underwear *WAS* dirty. However, he said that
the underwear he was wearing was *NOW* clean because he had “cleaned the underwear
with my fingers.”

The Joys of Living Downtown

Last night, about 8:15 pm, I was working in the office and through the wide open windows
I heard some yelling and quite a few f-bombs outside. I looked up and saw a man, about
50 yrs old, running down the street towards our house. He was yelling at a couple
of younger men (late teens, early twenties) who were chasing him and also yelling
profanities. As they passed in front of our house, I lost sight of them behind the
hedge but could hear them arguing profanely. While I was on the phone with the police,
I heard my neighbor across the street yell at them that he had called the cops. At
the same time, a car with a woman pulled up and I heard someone yell “Mom”.

All the while, Max is very mad at me because I would not let him outside, and he was
trying desparately to see what was going on behind the hedge, through the open windows.
Finally, I saw everyone get in the car and drive away. A couple of minutes later,
2 police cruisers came by and I talked to one of the officers. Max was very impressed.
As the cruiser pulled away, the woman who was driving the car came walking down the
street and talked to the police officer. I didn’t get to talk to her, but my neighbor
said that she had come by to explain that the older man was drunk and his sons were
trying to get him back in the house, and to apologize for the ruckus.

Toby was at the store during all this, and Max was bursting at the seams to tell her
the details of the fighting. I heard him say that he had heard a bad word. ‘Oh no’
I thought. He is going to ask why they were yelling f*** at each other so much. I
asked him what word he had heard. He lowered his voice, and with the gravest of faces
he whispered, “I heard ‘Shut Up’.”

Whew! Dodged that bullet for now.

Small Changes

For those of you who pay attention to details, you have already noticed the small changes to the look of the blog site. For those of you who don’t, here is what has changed:

  1. The blog header pictures – We decided that since it is nearly summer, we should change
the pictures from the winter theme. Don’t asked what happened to spring. You can click
on the thumbnails to bring up a larger size. Click on the magnifying glass icon under
this larger picture to get a full view (suitable for printing).
  2. The article header information – I have added the author of each blog article next
to the little American flag. Some people were confused over who wrote which article.
Also, you can click on the author’s name and get a list of all the articles that author
    has written.

Enjoy!

She Is Moving Moving

Baby has begun to ‘tagalong’ with big brother. Max’s friend Mac came over for the evening and wherever they were, she wanted to be. It was a bit frustrating for her because although she put her heart and soul into keeping up, she moves at the speed of crawl while Max and Mac are moving at the speed of whirling dirvishes.
She has started to find new ways to keep up, though. Check out the 2 little movies from this afternoon.
