Gave Blood Today

My employer, Salem, had the United
Blood Services
in our parking lot in a mobile blood donation unit today. I have given blood with them before, and did not have a good experience last time. Last time, I got very fidgety and uncomfortable about 1/2 way through and had to stay in the blood mobile for an extra amount of time while they watched me.

This time, I brought my book on CD (The Jansen Directive by Robert Ludlum) and some headphones, thinking it would distract me and keep me from wigging out. It did! I don’t know if I was bleeding faster today or if it was all about not thinking about what I was doing, but the time seemed to fly. I only got to listen to about 5 minutes of my book. Since it took so little time actually hooked up to the bag, I just kicked back on the recovery couch and finished off my CD.

First Gift Exchange for Max

Today Max had his first gift exchange with a couple of his friends. He received Air Drum Sticks and a new Buzz Lightyear t-shirt. He gave out Bob The Builder CDs. His drumsticks promptly became ‘shooting guns’ because the snare drum setting is a nice rat-a-tat-tat.

He loves Buzz Lightyear so much that he asked me to make some Buzz Lightyear wings for him a couple of weekends ago. 1 cardboard box, 2 pieces of twine, 1 salad bowl, and some duct tape later, he was ready to head ‘To Infinity and Beyond!’

Carpinteria Christmas Parade

Every year Carp has a Christmas parade down Linden Avenue (from 9th to 6th streets). Yesterday, Saturday, 11 Dec 2004, Max, Weezy, Toby, Matt (and Petey) participated in the walk as part of Max’s Pre-school, Lou
Grant Parent Child Workshop
. We all walked very slowly and haltingly for the 3
blocks. The kids had made tambourines (2 paper plates with beans in the middle) and
Christmas hats. Max wore his red cowboy hat from Gran-mille and Gran-Don, and I wore
a Christmas hat made by some kids at pre-school. Unfortunately, Petey did not make
it into any pictures, but my Christmas crown did.
